Food Hall Pledges to Champion Lancashire

Entrepreneurial foodies across Lancashire and the North-West are being challenged to come up with new and innovative food products by a business boss committed to championing local produce. James Warburton, md of James’ Places, the business behind the food hall at Holmes Mill, Clitheroe, has pledged to give every foodie start up a chance to grace the shelves. He said: “Bowland and Lancashire are absolute hotspots for top quality produce and an entrepreneurial spirit. We are very proud to showcase these in the Bowland Food Hall. “Anyone with a good idea and a great product can bring it to us. If it’s good enough, if they can make it for a profit and we can sell it for a profit then we would love to stock it. If the quality is not quite there but we think it has promise, we will work with them to bring it up to standard.”

The food hall is the larder for all the food outlets at Holmes Mill. Chefs at Cafe, Beer Hall, and soon the Bistro all source ingredients there. Said James: “We’re only interested in the best ingredients and we’re very proud of the integrity of the quality of everything we sell in the food hall. We never stock anything we wouldn’t use ourselves.”   James was one of a panel at the recent Taste Lancashire conference – an event to focus on the county’s food and drink offering organised by Marketing Lancashire. As well as fresh meats and cheese, the Bowland Food Hall sells a full range of bakery and patisserie delicacies, all made on site by the Holmes Mill team. A browse in the food hall also features fruit and vegetables, fish and seafood, wines and spirits, oils, charcuterie, chutneys and conserves.

The conversion of the Holmes Mill weaving shed into the Bowland Food Hall is the latest phase in its transformation by James’ Places. Other must-visits at Holmes Mill are the Beer Hall, with the longest bar in Britain, and its function room, Bowland Brewery, café and gelateria. The 40 bedroom hotel plus the Bistro, Bar and Grill is due to open later this year. Bowland Food Hall is open Monday - Saturday 10am - 7pm, Sunday 10am - 6pm.
